🎃 Custard Squash

🥒☀️ Simple food. Deep roots.

Custard squash is another name for pattypan squash. It is a charming member of the summer squash family. Pattypan squash is known for its distinctive scalloped, saucer-like shape. 🌼 Typically pale green, yellow, or creamy white, custard squash has tender skin and a mild flavour. It is slightly sweet and works beautifully in quick cooking. Unlike winter squashes, it is harvested young, making it soft, fast-cooking, and ideal for sautéing, grilling, roasting, or stuffing. 🍳🔥

Popular in European and American kitchens during the summer months, custard squash absorbs flavours readily while retaining a delicate bite. Its compact shape also makes it visually appealing on the plate. This demonstrates that humble vegetables can still bring a little theatre to the table. 🌿🍽️
